Stephen Fearing’s music is a mesmerizing blend of roots, folk, and pop. Co-founder of  Canadian roots-rock supergroup Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, he is a beguiling teller of  tales and master guitarist who delights audiences throughout North America, the UK,  and Europe. A multi JUNO and Canadian Folk Music award winner, his 11th solo album,  Every Soul’s a Sailor, was named 2017 Worldwide Album of the Year by Blues & Roots  Radio. In 2019 he released The Secret of Climbing, a limited edition, vinyl-only release  that captures the subtle emotions of his mesmerizing voice and masterful guitar work in  their purest form, unobscured by computers or studio wizardry.

Fearing is an alluring entertainer – heartbreaking, expansive, and full of mirth – with a  clear, honorable voice that lifts you out into his wide world and “brings you back home  to yourself.” Over the course of his celebrated career he has collaborated with artists  such as Bruce Cockburn, Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson, Rose Cousins, Nick Lowe,  Sarah McLachlan, Margo Timmins, Keb’ Mo’, Suzie Vinnick, and many more.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best songsmiths on the planet. Quality albums…stunning shows.” BBC UK

ARTIST BIO

“…a king amongst minstrels.”  Halifax Chronicle Herald

Born in Vancouver and raised in both Dublin, Ireland and back in British Columbia, Stephen  Fearing has been named one of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters. With a mesmerizing blend  of roots, folk, and pop he cultivated national and international audiences for his music, building  it ‘old school’ through countless performances at intimate venues, concert halls, and festivals of  all sizes, including major events like the Stanfest, Reading Festival, Shrewsbury Folk Festival,  and WOMAD.

A beguiling teller of tales and master guitarist, Fearing is an alluring entertainer – heartbreaking, expansive, and full of mirth – with a clear, honourable voice that lifts you out  into his wide world and “brings you back home to yourself.” He has released 12 solo albums and, over the course of his celebrated career, collaborated with artists such as Bruce Cockburn,  Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson, Cassandra Wilson, Nick Lowe, Sarah McLachlan, Rose  Cousins, Murray McLauchlan, Margo Timmins, Keb’ Mo’, Erin Costelo, Suzie Vinnick, and many  more.

In 1996 he co-founded Canadian supergroup Blackie and The Rodeo Kings with Colin Linden  and Tom Wilson. Almost 25 years later and with nine albums to their credit, the band has  become one of the most respected names in North American roots-rock. Fearing also released  two albums and toured as one half of the duo Fearing & White with fellow Irish son Andy  White.

Fearing’s abiding love for his craft and ability to delight audiences are reflected in multiple  JUNO and Canadian Folk Music nominations and awards and an ever-expanding touring circuit  throughout North America, the UK, and Europe. His 11th solo album, Every Soul’s a Sailor, won  the 2017 Worldwide Album of the Year by Blues & Roots Radio and earned him Contemporary  Singer of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. In 2019 he released The Secret of  Climbing, a limited edition, vinyl-only release that captures the subtle emotions of his  mesmerizing voice and masterful guitar work in their purest form, unobscured by computers or  studio wizardry.

With a life of many relocations and years of touring and performing, Fearing is a gifted  storyteller and true musical nomad who delights in connecting with his audience. “Getting on  stage is the fun part, especially when the adrenaline kicks in,” he says, with a broad smile.  “People want to relax and be taken on a journey. I sketch out my shows so they deliver on  that.”

When not working behind the microphone, Fearing spends time producing records including  Suzie Vinnick’s JUNO Award-nominated album Happy Here. “With producing, I really enjoy  collaborating with other artists. It’s a blast and, as a bonus, gives me a chance to learn and  expand my skill set.”

The JUNO Award-winner also shares his knowledge and experience with fellow musicians  through songwriting workshops (often scheduled in conjunction with festival appearances).  “The classes dovetail nicely with performing,” he said. “My students are from all walks of life  and I enjoy helping to coax them out of their comfort zones to create songs they might not have  otherwise developed.”
